Headache is a condition in which pain originates from one side of the head. This is primarily due to inflammation or irritation in the tissues and structures surrounding the brain. The International Headache Society puts the figure of headache types at 150, with the most common type being tension type headache when the sufferer experiences pain on both sides of the head. Migraine is another common type of headache that affects a large number of people, especially women.

Symptoms and Causes

Dehydration, tiredness and stress are some of the common triggers of headaches. Hunger, bad posture and eyestrain may also contribute to headache. Migraine could result from stress and physical triggers, certain foods, hormonal changes, emotions, environmental situations, muscle tension and poor sleep. According to the NHS, over 40% of the population in the United Kingdom suffers from tension-type headache. Frequent headaches could even impact quality of life of people, making it difficult to work or study.

Treatment

Vitamin B6 helps in the production of antibodies by the immune system. It is needed by the body to process dopamine and serotonin. Researchers have found that people with migraine headaches have lower levels of serotonin. Thus increasing intake of Vitamin B6 helps the body in properly using these crucial chemicals.
