Effective Nutritional Support through Menopause
Meno-Time is a complex formulation that provides nutritional support to women going through menopause. Menopause brings with it a whole host of symptoms including hot flashes, mood swings, irritability, insomnia, breast tenderness, decreased sex drive to name a few. Experiencing such symptoms can cause feelings of stress & anxiety to develop.
Optimal nutrition is vital during menopause as poor nutrition can exacerbate symptoms. Meno-Time is designed to help alleviate symptoms experienced during menopause and provide nutritional support before, during and after menopause.
Its key active ingredient is Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera enhances this food supplement in two ways. Firstly its ‘cleansing’ properties. Aloe is renowned for its cleansing and detoxifying abilities and when it comes to menopause this function is necessary.
Foods we eat, the environment, medication and so on can all cause a build-up of toxins in the body. This build up may not be completely excreted by the body which may also affect hormonal balance. The cleansing ability of Aloe Vera defeats this build-up enabling the body absorb the nutrients of Meno-Time more effectively.
Secondly, is its phytoestrogen compound – a property found in plants that mimics oestrogen. With menopause, Oestrogen levels dramatically decline which results in several symptoms including hot flashes and night sweats. Studies have shown that Aloe Vera activates oestrogen receptors thus producing the hormones that women going through menopause require to be able to minimise the symptoms.
How Meno-Time helps Support Women’s Health during Menopause?
During menopause, levels of oestrogen decline. Meno-Time contains vitamin B6 which contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity.
Kelp contains Iodine. Iodine is required by the body for effective thyroid function. Hyper or hypo thyroidism can adversely affect the endocrine system which is responsible for hormonal balance, which is why it is important to maintain healthy levels. Meno-Time contains kelp in order to help reduce symptoms associated with hormonal imbalance. It also supports the body’s metabolism by promoting the normal production of thyroid hormones in the body. This then helps the body to burn food eaten, increasing energy levels.
Historically, Pfaffia Root has been used to increase oestrogen production and continues to be used in the same way today. Estradiol-17 beta is the main oestrogen hormone produced in women during reproductive years and research supports Pfaffia Root as a natural supplement helpful for encouraging estradiol-17 beta, an action that may improve hormone balance.
Pfaffia Root contains key vitamins A, B1, B2, E, K and pantothenic acid, minerals, trace minerals such as zinc, magnesium and iron, and 19 different amino acids. These all contribute towards supporting energy levels. It also contains saponins which are thought to make it an effective adaptogen like ginseng.
Adaptogens are important as sleep problems such as insomnia can occur during menopause. Adaptogens are a natural substance that helps the body adapt to stress. They can increase the body's resistance to stress which helps promote better sleep, resulting in a more relaxed state of mind and more stable mood.
More precisely, Korean Ginseng is able to increase levels of serotonin and dopamine, which are known to help improve mood, and the ability to sleep, which is why Korean Ginseng is an integral part of the Meno-Time formulation.
Hops has also been found to possess phytoestrogen properties but contains maybe the most potent phytoestrogen known as 8-PN. Studies have found that Hops is effective in relieving hot flashes alongside other menopausal discomforts including insomnia, irritability and heart palpitations.
Menopause itself does not cause cardiovascular disease, but cardiovascular disease can become a health risk as it commonly develops after menopause. One factor may be due to the reduced oestrogen levels, as oestrogen is believed to positively affect artery walls, helping to keep blood vessels flexible and enabling efficient blood flow. Declining oestrogen levels are inevitable, but maintaining cardiovascular health can be helped. Meno-Time contains CoQ10. The heart contains an abundance of Co-Q10, as the muscle works extremely hard and therefore requires a high energy supply to function efficiently. CoQ10 supports the heart’s cells energy production.
This is why CoQ10 is extremely important to women about to, who are and who have gone through menopause.
Vitamin B6 also contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism. Keeping healthy lower levels of the blood amino acid homocysteine has also been linked to heart health.
What is Menopause?
Menopause will inevitably affect every woman. It has three stages: Perimenopause, Menopause and Post-Menopause. In short, the ovaries stop producing eggs and decrease their production of oestrogen (the female sex hormone).
Stages of Menopause
Perimenopause refers to the commencing of menopause. Oestrogen levels rise and fall unpredictably and periods may also become sporadic. Women may experience hot flashes, breast tenderness, and decreased sex drive. This stage generally lasts 4-8 years and occurs in the middle to late 40s. Women may also experience mild depression, often brought on in conjunction with other life changes occurring at this time.
Menopause is the 12-month’s following a woman's final period. Here, egg production has ceased and oestrogen levels decline.
Postmenopause starts 12 months after a woman's final period, usually in her late 40s-early 50s. Hot flashes and other symptoms fade away, and no blood flow from the uterus occurs. At this stage, the reduced oestrogen levels and the ceased ovarian function does pose some long-term health risks. The most significant being osteoporosis and coronary artery disease.
Coronary Artery Disease occurs when plaque builds up in the arteries and reduces the flow of blood to the heart. Managing harmful cholesterol levels is seen as a key step in combating the development of coronary artery disease.
Medication, such as statins, prescribed by doctors to treat and help prevent coronary artery disease, are given to help lower the body's manufacture of cholesterol. But statins also prevent the body's ability to produce Co-enzyme Q10, so a CoQ10 supplement may also be beneficial for those taking statin drugs. But always consult your doctor to check if supplements are right for you when taking prescribed medication.

The Science behind Meno-Time
Se Chan Kang et al conducted a study, published in Archives of Pharmacal Research in 2008 titled ‘Anti-proliferative effects of oestrogen receptor-modulating compounds isolated from Rheum palmatum’. Here they tested five different compounds to determine their oestrogenic activity. From their findings they concluded aloe extracts activate the oestrogen receptors and ‘had the highest estrogenic relative potency’. Therefore aloe extract produces the hormones that menopausal women need in able to minimise the symptoms.
In an alternative study, Heyerick et al conducted a study titled ‘A first prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study on the use of a standardized hop extract to alleviate menopausal discomforts’, published in Maturitas, 2006.
Here Belgian researchers examined the effects of a hops extract enriched in 8-PN for the relief of hot flashes and other menopausal discomforts in 67 naturally menopausal (ovaries not surgically removed) women, aged 45 to 60 years. Responses were determined by means of a modified Kupperman index (KI) and a patients' questionnaire.
Participants were randomly divided into three groups: 1) 8-PN 100 mcg/day; 2) 8‑PN 250 mcg/day; and 3) placebo.
At 6 and 12 weeks, researchers evaluated the women’s frequency of hot flashes along with their other menopausal discomforts and complaints.
The results indicate that both groups receiving 8-PN reduced the frequency of hot flashes after six and 12 weeks of treatment. 8-PN also helped improve total menopausal discomfort score, which included not only hot flashes, but also insomnia, irritability, and heart palpitations as assessed by the women themselves.
Researchers concluded Hop-derived prenylated flavonoids may provide an attractive addition to the alternative treatments available for relief of hot flushes and other menopausal discomforts.
