MSM + Vitamin C = Recipe for Maximum Joint Health
This MSM with Vitamin C supplement combines high quality methysulfonylmethane (MSM) with pure vitamin C. MSM is a naturally occurring sulphur compound found in every plant and animal tissue. It is contained naturally in the food or it should be, but often it disappears or is significantly reduced because of the over processing done. Mixed with Vitamin C you have the benefits of MSM and the antioxidant properties of Vitamin C. Vitamin C as an antioxidant helps the body to remove harmful free-radicals in the cells.
MSM and Vitamin C have long been regarded as an exceptional pairing. It is believed MSM improves the cellular uptake of Vitamin C and prolongs its longevity in the body so the body is better able to utilise this vitamin.
MSM is a naturally occurring source of sulphur, one of the major building blocks of glycosaminoglycans which helps support the maintenance of collagen in joints. It’s also a major component of synovial fluid lubricant in joints, connective tissues, cartilage and tendons. Vitamin C works alongside also contributing towards normal collagen formation for the normal function of bones and cartilage.
Connective tissue, cartilage, skin, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels all require adequate levels of Vitamin C to function optimally. This essential nutrient does this by helping the body to make collagen. Collagen is especially important in connective tissue to ensure ligaments, cartilage, tendons and joints remain healthy. Vitamin C promotes cellular growth, tissue repair and wound healing. A deficiency in this vitamin hinders collagen and cartilage synthesis, which may result in degenerative joint diseases that leave joints painful and swollen.
Collectively, they form an unbeatable force to help support joint health, joint mobility and flexibility so movement becomes easier and pain-free.
How Joints Function
Joints connect bones within the body, some are weight bearing and all enable you to move. Generally they are made up of bone, muscles, synovial fluid to lubricate the joint enabling pain-free movement, cartilage (which if becomes worn over time can lead to painful movement, decreased range of motion and as a result osteoarthritis) and ligaments (which can become lax from damage making the strength of the surrounding muscles of the joint all the more important). There are different types of joints though.
Joints in the elbow and knee are ‘Hinge Joints’ which essentially act as a door hinge would with two ranges of motion – forwards and back. Hips and shoulders provide a greater range of movement and therefore are ‘ball-and-socket joints’. Such different joints provide unique points of stability and mobility.
Helping maintain joint stability and mobility through regular stretching & muscular strengthening exercise, through healthy eating (providing the body with the nutrients it needs to function optimally), you will better help your body prevent developing conditions such as arthritis, osteoarthritis or gout. Joint health supplements provide additional support to helping maintain stability and mobility by feeding the joint the exact nutrients it requires to help stay strong and function optimally.

MSM in the Press
Health Article: Daily Mail: Methyl sulphonyl methane - arthritis
MSM is a natural constituent of most foodstuffs, both animal and vegetable, which provides an organic source of sulphur and is a natural precursor of the essential amino acids methionine and cysteine.
MSM is becoming increasingly popular as a supplement designed to reduce allergic reactions to pollen and foods, and as an alleviator of the pain and inflammation associated with arthritis, sporting injuries and other, similar conditions.
MSM is chemically quite similar to another health supplement, DMSO (Dimethylsulfoxide), and is often referred to as DMSO2. There is some degree of uncertainty surrounding the purported health benefits of MSM; a few studies have looked at the effectiveness of MSM for athletic injuries and arthritis yet more studies are undoubtedly needed to prove the benefits conclusively.
MSM is marketed both as a single-ingredient product and combined with various other ingredients. It is available for oral use in capsules and tablets, and for application to the skin in a lotion, cream or gel.
According to Robert M Herschler, a research biochemist and patent-holder for MSM, an intake of 0.5 to 1mg per kilogram of body weight per day is 'desirable'.
The Science behind Bonemax MSM 500mg & Vitamin C
Researchers Pagonis et al conducted a study titled ‘The Effect of Methylsulfonylmethane on Osteoarthritic Large Joints and Mobility’ published in the International Journal of Orthopaedics 2014.
Their aim was to explain the effect of MSM on osteoarthritic joints and mobility. To do this they carried out a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial including 100 patients, with hip and/or knee Osteoarthritis (OA) arranged in an intervention and a placebo group.
The Intervention group were given MSM 6 gr per day or placebo for 26 weeks. Outcomes measured were the Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index visual analogue scale (WOMAC), patient and physician assessments and SF-36 (overall health-related quality of life).
Results showed that the group given MSM presented significant decreases in all subscales of WOMAC with improved performance of daily living activities. Patient and Physician assessments also presented favourable effects on the MSM group
Pagonis concluded that MSM improved all physical symptoms in the WOMAC scale during the short intervention without any adverse events.
