Today is the official start date of National Obesity Awareness week which aims to help kick-start improving the nation’s health. Whether it’s cooking more healthily, avoiding snacks, or being a little more physically active, there is something we can change in our lives to make them healthier – and that change can begin today.
To put it simply, obesity is a medical condition whereby excess body fat accumulates to such an extent that it may have a negative effect on health. The main causes include overeating and physical inactivity.
Obesity can be a root cause for many underlying health issues such as joint problems/pain, cardiovascular conditions, depression and type 2 diabetes. It has also recently been linked to certain cancers, so it is important to address the condition head-on and not ignore it, otherwise your health could deteriorate further.
Luckily there are a number of things you can do to turn this around.
Taking the first step to a lifestyle change is key. The first step can be to make a plan of action. This plan can include healthy meal plans for each week, healthy shopping lists, and an exercise plan. Remember, if you have been diagnosed as being obese, it is always best to consult your GP before undertaking any physical activity.
Meal plans should consist of three healthy meals a day, with two healthy snacks (one between each meal). Dinner should be the last thing eaten that day.
If cooking isn’t your forte, you may want to try meal replacement shakes. These shakes replace 2 meals per day leaving you to only decide what to eat for dinner. Meal replacement shakes are formulated to be as delicious as they are nutritious. MetaShake contains just 195 calories in one shake, but this one shake is packed with 14g protein, all essential vitamins & minerals you would normally receive from breakfast or lunch.
