Colostrum, the Fuel of Life
When babies are born, it is recommended that the baby is breastfed for the first three days after birth dues to the milk content. It is packed full of colostrum. This substance is packed full of antibodies making it renowned for the immune system support it provides baby, ensuring baby’s best start in life. For this reason, colostrum has fast become a popular supplement for helping to enhance the immune system in adulthood.
Bovine (cow) colostrum is generally used in these supplements as research has shown that the molecular combinations of the immune and growth factors (including IGF-1, Lactoferrin, and Lactoperoxidase) in cow's colostrum are almost completely identical to that of humans. It has also been found that bovine colostrum is not species specific and so is able to impart all its benefits to humans. Lactoferrin is particularly important as it possesses antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties.
After puberty, the body slowly makes less of those necessary immune and growth factors which is why a colostrum supplement is important. This is because taking a daily colostrum supplement can help your immune system stay at its normal levels in order to help fight off infection and disease.
Research has shown that colostrum has the ability to kill bacteria and viral invaders and stimulate tissue repair (particularly in the bowel lining). In many cases, Infection can originate within the intestinal tract, which is why Bioplus Colostrum Plus contains additional probiotics and prebiotics. A healthy digestive tract is necessary for a healthy immune system.
High Quality Colostrum
The quality of colostrum is often measured by its IgG level. IgG stands for Immunoglobulin G, which is a type of antibody. Antibodies are a major component of our immune system. The colostrum we use has a guaranteed 20% IgG level. The colostrum is harvested from European grass-fed cows on pollution-free family farms with meticulous traceability, so every container can be tracked back to the cow it came from, ensuring absolute quality at every step of the production process.
Most colostrum from the US uses hormones to stimulate IgG activity and greater colostrum production. Our colostrum complies with EU Whole Hygiene Regulations, which prohibit the use of hormones. As a final safeguard our colostrum and the farms of origin are routinely checked by veterinary experts.
We use our extensive knowledge of supplements to create ideal synergistic blends. Bioplus Colostrum Plus is mixed with two probiotics and a prebiotic. This helps the body to absorb and utilise the colostrum at the optimum level.
Features & Benefits – Why Take Bioplus Colostrum Plus

Is Bioplus Colostrum Plus Right For Me?
As we age, the amount of necessary immune and growth factors we need to stay healthy gradually depletes. This means our immune system is unable to work optimally leaving the body susceptible to viruses and infection. The best way to help the body promote its antibody levels is through a colostrum supplement. Bioplus Colostrum Plus also contains probiotics and prebiotics to further enhance the benefits and help support the health of the intestinal tract. So in order to improve your immunity naturally, this supplement may be beneficial to you.
Colostrum in the Press
Health Article: Daily Mail: Gold top! A super-milk for athletes: Liquid packed with nutrients will boost immune system and try to ward off effects of Rio's pollution during 2016 Olympics
Team GB athletes could be going to the 2016 Olympics with a secret weapon.
Backroom staff are worried about the pollution levels in host city Rio de Janeiro.
So now British scientists have come to the rescue with an exclusive remedy – the milk produced by cows in the 48 hours after they give birth.
Bovine colostrum – also known as ‘pre-milk’ – is produced by mother cows to get a newborn calf through the critical first hours of life.
It is packed with nutrients and studies have shown the milk can boost athletes’ immune systems during intensive physical training.
And researchers at Edinburgh Napier University believe the milk could be particularly useful in helping ward off the effect of pollution.
They believe drinking it could help reduce lung inflammation caused by inhaling pollutants such as carbon dioxide and nitrogen dioxide.
It is known to strengthen the walls of the gut, aid digestion and is thought to be a method of treating acne.
The Science behind Bioplus Colostrum Plus
Bovine Colostrum has long been studied for its antibody, anti-inflammatory responses. More recently, Ben Ya'acov et al, 2015, conducted a study titled ‘The gut microbiome as a target for regulatory T cell-based immunotherapy: induction of regulatory lymphocytes by oral administration of anti-LPS enriched colostrum alleviates immune mediated colitis’ published in BMC Gastroenterology.
Their premise was that toxins in bacteria from the gut should be considered when discussing Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are essential to help prevent and alleviate IBD. The researchers aim was to determine the immune effect of anti-LPS (antibody content) enriched hyperimmune colostrum, as well as its ability to induce Regulatory T cells and alleviate immune mediated colitis.
Findings suggested oral administration promoted Regulatory T cells and alleviated bowel inflammation in immune mediated colitis. They concluded that the present data suggests that the microbiome (the microorganisms in the bowel) may serve as a target for Regulatory T cells-based immunotherapy (the prevention or treatment of disease with a substance that stimulates the immune response).
Yadav R et al, 2016 further developed the realm of health benefits demonstrating the anti-inflammatory response shown by Bovine Colostrum. Researchers here conducted a study titled ‘Antibacterial and Antiinflammatory Properties of Bovine Colostrum’ Published in Recent Patents on Inflammation & Allergy Drug Discovery. The study was designed to investigate the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities of Bovine Colostrum.
This is because Immunity related disorder is one of the leading causes of disease in the world. Oxidative stress and microbial infections play a major role in inflammation-induced diseases. Bovine colostrum (BC) contains immunoglobulins and lactoferrins which help in building the immunity and protect against the bacterial proliferation and growth.
Results found Bovine Colostrum showed significant antimicrobial activity against E. coli, S. aureus, P. vulgaris, E. aerogenes and S. typhi.
Researchers concluded BC may be beneficial in reducing the risks of inflammation associated diseases.
