Help Your Body Feel ‘Energised’ Every Day
B vitamins are water-soluble meaning the body is unable to store them. They must either be consumed through a healthy diet or as a supplement in order to avoid a deficiency. A deficiency can cause chronic tiredness and fatigue. This is because group B Vitamins work within the body to help with the formation of red blood cells – helping to get oxygen around every part of the body so that is can function optimally, maintain normal metabolism, as well as to help produce energy.
Energy itself is a cellular process that is reliant on the vitamins and minerals we eat. Constant low energy levels generally points to a cellular imbalance. When cells are getting enough energy the body feels energised. It’s when cells struggle to produce energy, they suffer damage or die, leaving the body feeling exhausted.
If your diet is lacking any of the B group vitamins, especially B12 then taking a daily supplement like Nutrapure Vitamin B Complex 50mg may be beneficial to help the cellular process of generating energy, maintaining metabolism and supporting red blood cell formation.
This complex contains all 8 important B vitamins:
- Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)
- Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
- Vitamin B3 (Nicotinamide)
- Vitamin B5 (Calcium Pantothenate)
- Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)
- Folacin (Folic Acid)
- Biotin 50μg
- Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin)
And though they work well as a group, they also preform individual functions within the body.
Thiamine (vitamin B1), is required to help produce cellular energy from the foods you eat, and also supports normal nervous system function.
Riboflavin (vitamin B2), Niacin (vitamin B3) and Pantothenic Acid (vitamin B5) helps support cellular energy production in the body.
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) is involved in over 100 cellular reactions throughout the body, and is instrumental in keeping various bodily functions operating at their best. It is needed to metabolize amino acids and glycogen (the body’s storage form of glucose), and is also necessary for normal nervous system function and red blood cell formation.
Biotin (vitamin B7) has been shown to help improve the health of hair, skin and nails. It also supports carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism.
Folic Acid (vitamin B9) is renowned for the role it plays in fetal health and development. It is required for the proper development of the baby’s nervous system. Adequate folic acid levels may reduce a woman’s risk of having a child with a neural tube defect.
Cobalamin (vitamin B12) is a key B vitamin as it plays a major role in the pathways of the body that produce cellular energy. It is also required for DNA synthesis, proper red blood cell formation and for normal nervous system function.

Vitamin B12 plays an important role in health — for example it helps the brain and nervous system function, and is important for the formation of blood cells. It is also needed for the manufacture of myelin, the insulating material that surrounds certain nerve cells.
A lack of vitamin B12 typically causes extreme fatigue, muscle weakness and problems with memory and concentration. It can also lead to temporary infertility in women, while a lack of it during pregnancy can result in foetal abnormalities.
The nutrient is found in red meat, fish and dairy products and most people can get enough from diet.
However up to 18 per cent of the population are deficient in it, with 80 per cent of these women, according to retired GP Dr Joseph Chandy, president of the B12 Deficiency Support Group, a figure he bases on anecdotal evidence.
Deficiency is linked to ageing and in the elderly, it may be linked to dementia, adds David Smith, Professor Emeritus of Pharmacology at Oxford University. ‘Once levels fall below 500 pg/ml (picograms per millilitre — the normal range being 500 to 1,000), the brain starts to deteriorate at twice the usual rate, making memory loss six times more likely.’
In fact diet is rarely a cause of a deficiency, explains Dr Premini Mahendra, a consultant haematologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. That’s because the vitamin can be easily obtained from food sources — for instance 3oz (85g) of canned tuna provides around 2.4mcg. ‘Since it is found in red meat and dairy products, it tends to be vegetarians and vegans who are prone to dietary deficiency,’ she explains.
More common is for a deficiency to arise from an inability to absorb the vitamin correctly. Simply getting older increases this risk because as we age, the stomach shrinks and produces less of the acid needed for B12 to be absorbed.
